Role Overview
We're looking for a Senior Lab Technician who will serve as the Lab Incharge for our in-house pathology laboratory. This role is ideal for someone
who has hands-on experience supporting the setup of a new laboratory and is comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day laboratory operations.
You will play a key role in commissioning the lab, establishing workflows and SOPs, coordinating with equipment vendors, managing inventory,
ensuring quality standards, and performing diagnostic testing across Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunoassay, and Clinical Pathology.
What You'll Do
● Support the commissioning and operational readiness of the in-house pathology laboratory.
● Perform diagnostic testing across Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunoassay and Clinical Pathology while ensuring accuracy and compliance
with quality standards.
● Coordinate installation, calibration, validation and preventive maintenance of laboratory instruments.
● Establish and implement laboratory SOPs, workflows and documentation.
● Manage laboratory inventory, reagents and consumables to ensure uninterrupted operations while minimizing wastage.
● Coordinate with equipment vendors for service, maintenance and troubleshooting.
● Manage relationships with partner/reference laboratories for outsourced investigations, including sample logistics, reporting, turnaround
time and quality follow-up.
● Perform daily IQC and participate in EQAS/ILC programmes, ensuring compliance with internal quality standards.
● Support validation and launch of new parameters and diagnostic tests.
● Work closely with the reporting Pathologist to ensure smooth day-to-day laboratory operations and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities / Success Metrics (KRAs)
Operational Excellence
● Ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of the laboratory with minimal operational downtime.
● Maintain instrument uptime through preventive maintenance and timely issue resolution.
● Ensure laboratory readiness at all times.
Turnaround Time (TAT)
● Achieve defined turnaround times for all in-house investigations.
● Coordinate with outsourced partner laboratories to ensure agreed TATs for referred tests.
● Proactively identify and resolve delays impacting report delivery.
Quality
● Maintain high standards of analytical and pre-analytical quality.
● Ensure consistent compliance with IQC, EQAS/ILC and laboratory quality protocols.
● Minimize sample rejection, reporting errors and quality non-conformances.
● Maintain complete and audit-ready laboratory documentation.
Cost & Inventory Management
● Optimize reagent utilization and reduce wastage.
● Maintain adequate inventory levels without stock-outs or overstocking.
● Coordinate procurement and monitor consumable usage to support cost-efficient operations.
Vendor & Partner Lab Management
● Manage service providers, equipment vendors and outsourced diagnostic partners.
● Ensure preventive maintenance schedules and vendor SLAs are adhered to.
● Monitor quality and turnaround performance of referral laboratories.
Skills & Qualifications
● DMLT/BMLT/BSc MLT/PGDMLT
● 4–7 years of experience in diagnostic laboratories
● Prior experience in setting up or commissioning a new laboratory is strongly preferred
● Hands-on experience in Hematology, Biochemistry, Immunoassay and Clinical Pathology
● Experience with instrument installation, calibration and validation
● Familiarity with IQC, EQAS/ILCs and laboratory quality systems
● Experience launching new tests and performing method validation
● Good understanding of inventory management and reagent planning
● Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
● Ability to independently manage day-to-day operations of a small, high-quality laboratory
