1. The Consultant General Surgeon is responsible for providing comprehensive surgical care to patients, including outpatient consultations, emergency management, elective and emergency surgeries, inpatient care, and post-operative follow-up. The consultant is expected to maintain the highest standards of patient safety, ethical practice, and clinical excellence while working collaboratively with other specialties.

Key Responsibilities

1. Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients requiring surgical intervention.
2. Conduct OPD consultations and daily inpatient rounds.
3. Perform elective and emergency general surgical procedures.
4. Manage trauma and acute surgical emergencies.
5. Attend emergency calls as per the duty roster.
6. Provide pre-operative assessment, obtain informed consent, and counsel patients and their families.
7. Ensure safe post-operative management and follow-up care.
8. Collaborate with Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Radiology, and other departments for multidisciplinary care.
9. Maintain accurate clinical documentation, operative notes, discharge summaries, and medico-legal records.
10. Participate in infection control, quality improvement programs, morbidity and mortality meetings, and clinical audits.
11. Supervise and guide Medical Officers, nursing staff, and OT personnel.
12. Follow hospital SOPs, ethical standards, and patient safety protocols.
