Key Responsibilities

1. Prepare and manage the labour room for deliveries.
2. Assess women presenting with labour pain and promptly inform the gynaecologist.
3. Monitor labour progress, contractions, maternal vital signs and fetal heart rate.
4. Assist the gynaecologist during normal vaginal deliveries and obstetric procedures.
5. Conduct normal deliveries only within the candidate’s authorised scope and hospital protocols.
6. Provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal nursing care.
7. Recognise warning signs and assist in obstetric emergencies, including postpartum haemorrhage, eclampsia and fetal distress.
8. Prepare emergency medicines, instruments, delivery trays and newborn-resuscitation equipment.
9. Provide immediate newborn care, including initial assessment, warmth, cord care and breastfeeding support.
10. Assist with newborn resuscitation when required and appropriately trained.
11. Administer prescribed medicines, injections and IV fluids.
12. Maintain strict infection-control, sterilisation and patient-safety standards.
13. Maintain accurate labour-room, delivery, medication and patient records.
14. Educate mothers regarding breastfeeding, hygiene, nutrition, postnatal care and danger signs.
15. Coordinate effectively with the gynaecologist, paediatrician and other hospital staff.
16. Maintain patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.

Preferred Skills

1. Training in Basic Life Support and newborn resuscitation.
2. Knowledge of CTG/fetal monitoring.
3. Experience managing labour-room emergencies.
4. Good communication, documentation and patient-handling skills.
5. Calm, alert and compassionate approach to maternity care.
