Description

  • Assist in preparing the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile, functional, and readily available.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical team members to prepare patients for surgery, including verifying patient identity, obtaining informed consent, and positioning patients on the operating table.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, anesthesia induction, and physiological responses during surgery, and communicate any changes or concerns to the surgical team for prompt intervention.
  • Anticipate surgeons' needs during procedures, pass instruments, and maintain a sterile field to facilitate smooth surgical workflow and ensure patient safety.
  • Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products as directed by the surgical team, and document medication administration and patient responses accurately.
  • Provide post-operative nursing care, including wound care, pain management, and monitoring for complications such as hemorrhage, infection, or respiratory distress, and initiate appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Educate patients and their families about post-operative care instructions, discharge medications, and signs and symptoms of potential complications, ensuring a smooth transition to the recovery phase.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements in the operating room, and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and safety.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of perioperative nursing care, including pre-operative assessments, intraoperative events, and post-operative observations, in electronic health records (EHRs) or other clinical documentation systems.
