Description
- A Staff Nurse will attend to OPD patients and fulfill the pre-assessment criteria at the time of admission like taking the vital signs, weight, height etc,
- Verify patient files for completeness of admission criteria.
- Assist doctors in patient examination and other general duties.
- Responsible for the pre – operative care of patients:
- Taking informed consent of the patient,
- Clearing any doubts or queries of the patient before operation
- Counseling of Patient (if required)
- Cleaning of eyes,
- Dilatation of eye,
- Cutting the eye lashes,
- Administration of pre- op drugs such as antibiotic injection etc,.
- Assist in the cleaning & preparation of the operating room between cases.
- Assist surgeons in operations.
- Responsible for the patients’ post operative care, verify the patient medical record file for post operative notes, instructions & other paper formalities.
- Responsible for the care of patients admitted in wards.
- Maintain all OPD/ ward records as required by hospital protocols.
- Responsible for ward cleanliness & hygiene.
- Maintain patients right to privacy.
- Responsible for ward stock of linen/drugs/emergency drugs etc,.
- Responsible for proper discharge of patients:
- Educate patients about their medication & next visit,
- Ensure the presence of a copy of properly signed discharge note in patient file
- Ensure proper maintenance of supplies and all medical instruments & equipments.
- Coordinate with other departments for good flow of work.
- Consult with appropriate supervisor or physician as needed.
- Function within the legal limits of nursing practices.
- Attend camps according to the work schedule.
- Role in emergencies: Recognize systemic emergencies & act accordingly v.i.z., emergency care, inform doctor, shift if required.
- Supervision: Supervision of nursing assistants in the performance of duties.
- Responsible for all documents.
