Description

  • Provide specialized nursing care to pediatric patients admitted to the PICU, including those with complex medical conditions, congenital anomalies, and post-operative care needs.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor vital signs, manage respiratory support, administer medications, and coordinate treatments and interventions as prescribed by pediatric intensivists.
  • Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff within the PICU, including Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Nursing Assistants.
  • Supervise and coordinate nursing care delivery, ensuring adherence to PICU standards of practice, policies, and procedures.
  • Mentor and support staff in the development of clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and family-centered care practices.
  • Collaborate with parents and caregivers to provide family-centered care, involving them in the care process, providing education and support, and facilitating family presence and participation in decision-making.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for families, addressing their concerns, providing emotional support, and facilitating communication with healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate effectively with pediatric intensivists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, social workers, and other healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care for PICU patients.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, care conferences, and discharge planning meetings to discuss patient progress, develop care plans, and coordinate transition of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and activities within the PICU, contributing to the development and implementation of strategies to enhance patient safety, quality of care, and clinical outcomes.
