Description

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients with speech, language, voice, fluency, or swallowing disorders, utilizing standardized assessment tools, clinical observation, and patient history to determine the nature and severity of communication impairments.
  • Diagnose speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders based on assessment findings, clinical judgment, and diagnostic criteria, and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each client's needs and goals.
  • Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to address speech sound production (articulation), language comprehension and expression, voice quality and resonance, fluency (stuttering), and swallowing function (dysphagia).
  • Implement a variety of therapy techniques and modalities, including but not limited to articulation drills, language exercises, voice therapy, fluency shaping techniques, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and dysphagia management strategies.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, psychologists, educators, occupational therapists, and physical therapists, to coordinate care, referrals, and multidisciplinary treatment plans for clients with complex needs.
  • Provide counseling and education to clients and their families/caregivers about communication strategies, home practice exercises, adaptive techniques, and environmental modifications to support communication and swallowing function in daily life.
  • Monitor clients' progress and response to therapy, adjusting treatment plans as needed based on ongoing assessment data, patient feedback, and therapeutic outcomes, and documenting treatment interventions, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately and comprehensively.
  • Advocate for clients' communication and swallowing needs in educational, healthcare, and community settings, promoting awareness, accessibility, and inclusion for individuals with communication disorders.
