Description

Prepare the operating room for general surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterilized, organized, and readily available.
Provide direct assistance to surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, holding tissues, and anticipating their needs, maintaining a sterile field at all times.
Demonstrate proficiency in the use and handling of surgical instruments commonly used in general surgery, ensuring efficient instrument exchange and proper instrument care.
Adhere to strict aseptic techniques and infection control protocols to maintain a sterile environment throughout surgical procedures, minimizing the risk of surgical site infections.
Assist in positioning patients on the operating table, preparing surgical sites, and monitoring vital signs during surgery, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity throughout the surgical process.
Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technicians, and other members of the surgical team to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.
Accurately document all aspects of the surgical procedure, including instrument counts, patient information, and any relevant observations or interventions, in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Respond promptly and effectively to any emergencies or unexpected events during surgery, implementing appropriate interventions to support patient safety and well-being.
Assist with the transfer of patients to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or recovery area after surgery, providing postoperative care as needed and ensuring appropriate handover to post-anesthesia care providers.
Participate in ongoing education and training opportunities to enhance skills and stay current on advances in surgical techniques, equipment, and best practices in general surgery.
