Description

Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and properly sterilized.
Verify surgical counts with the circulating nurse and assist in positioning patients for surgery.
Anticipate the needs of surgeons during procedures by passing instruments, supplies, and sutures efficiently and accurately.
Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgical procedure and assist with wound closure as directed by the surgeon.
Monitor patients' vital signs and assist anesthesia providers with administering medications as needed during surgery.
Provide emotional support to patients and their families during the perioperative period, explaining procedures and answering questions.
Collaborate with members of the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesia providers, and circulating nurses, to ensure safe and effective patient care.
Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate activities in the operating room and respond promptly to emergent situations.
Accurately document intraoperative events, surgical counts, and patient responses to interventions in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Report any deviations from the expected course of care to the nurse manager or surgical team members as appropriate.
