Description
- Meet the patient and family on arrival to the unit.
- Inform the patient’s condition to consultant SOS.
- To help the consultant in OPD
- Daily round with Consultant.
- Take history and examine the patient. Male doctors shall ensure the presence of a nurse or female colleague if examining a female patient.
- Respond promptly to any nurse’s urgent request for help in caring for any patient.
- Respond promptly to “Code Blue” announcements.
- Knowledge of BLS.
- Prepare discharge summary for patients under their care.
- Comply with all Hospital Policies and procedures.
- Participate in the Hospital’s quality improvement plan.
- Participate in clinical and non-clinical training programs organized by the Department and the Hospital.
- Display professional behaviour with patients, colleagues and other Hospital staff.
- Maintain proper record of IPD patients of RBS reports and inform the consultant.
- Send appropriate referrals and communicate with consultants.
- Ensure completion of patient records at the time of discharge.
- Assist in Specialized Procedure
- Insert peripheral intravenous catheters when required.
- Insert invasive vascular access lines only under supervision.
- Carry out invasive diagnostic procedures such as paracentesis, thoracentesis, and liver biopsy, kidney biopsy only upon the direction of the consultant and under strict supervision.
- Take appropriate blood samples in case of difficulty by phlebotomists or nurses.
Patient and Family Education - To maintain the confidentiality of patients.
- To provide patient & family education.
- To provide diagnosis-specific patient and family education.
Documentation - Document history & physical examination within 24 hours of admission
- Write daily progress notes at least once in 24 hours and more frequently if the patient's condition requires more frequent observations.
- Write all orders in legible writing in the “Physician Order Sheet”, after confirmation with a senior colleague or Consultant.
- Follow up on investigations sent and communicate results to the consultant. Document such communications and the resultant necessary orders.
- Participation in Continuous Quality Improvement.
- formulate the Process Improvement programs and carry on Quality Initiatives in the department.
- To perform all other jobs as may be assigned due to exigencies of work.
