Description
- Meet the patient and family on arrival to the unit.
- Send appropriate referrals and communicate with consultants.
- Ensure completion of patient records at the time of discharge.
- Respond promptly to any nurse’s urgent request for help in caring for any patient.
- Respond promptly to “Code Blue” announcements.
- Knowledge of BLS.
- Prepare discharge summary for patients under their care.
- Comply with all Hospital Policies and procedures.
- Participate in the Hospital’s quality improvement plan.
- Participate in clinical and non-clinical training programs organized by the Department and the Hospital.
- Display professional behavior with patients, colleagues and other Hospital staff.
- Take history and perform examination of the patient. Male doctors shall ensure presence of a nurse or female colleague if examining a female patient.
- To take charge of the patients from the resident on previous duty.
- Inform the patient’s condition to consultant SOS..
Assist in Specialized procedures
- Insert peripheral intravenous catheters when required.
- NG tube insertion/U cath Insertion.
- Insert invasive vascular access lines only under supervision.
- Carry out invasive diagnostic procedures such as paracentesis.
- Take appropriate blood samples in case of difficulty by phlebotomist or nurses
Patient and family education
- To maintain the confidentiality of patient.
- To provide patient & family education.
- To provide diagnosis specific patient and family education.
Documentation
- Document history & physical examination within 24 hours of admission.
- Write daily progress notes at least once in 24 hours and more frequently if patient condition requires more frequent observations.
- Shifting and receiving notes.
- Put all orders in Physician Order window in HIS after confirmation with a senior colleague or Consultant.
- Follow up on investigations sent and communicate results to the consultant. Document such communications and the resultant necessary orders.
- Participation in Continuous Quality Improvement.
- To formulate the Process Improvement programs and carry on Quality Initiatives in the department.
- To perform all other jobs as may be assigned due to exigencies of work.
