Description

  • Receive and catalog biological samples (tissues, cells, fluids) from surgeries, biopsies, and autopsies.
  • Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by cutting thin sections using microtomes.
  • Stain and mount tissue samples on slides to highlight structures and abnormalities.
  • Follow standardized procedures for sample fixation, dehydration, embedding, and staining.
  • Perform a variety of laboratory tests on tissue samples to detect abnormal cells or microorganisms.
  • Operate specialized laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, centrifuges, and staining machines.
  • Assist pathologists by preparing slides and specimens for diagnosis.
  • Handle cytological samples, including Pap smears and fine-needle aspirations, and prepare them for analysis.
  • Ensure that all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and functioning efficiently.
  • Monitor the quality of reagents, stains, and chemicals used in tissue processing.
  • Implement and adhere to quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Document and report any malfunctions, errors, or inconsistencies in lab equipment or testing processes.
