Description
- Receive and catalog biological samples (tissues, cells, fluids) from surgeries, biopsies, and autopsies.
- Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by cutting thin sections using microtomes.
- Stain and mount tissue samples on slides to highlight structures and abnormalities.
- Follow standardized procedures for sample fixation, dehydration, embedding, and staining.
- Perform a variety of laboratory tests on tissue samples to detect abnormal cells or microorganisms.
- Operate specialized laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, centrifuges, and staining machines.
- Assist pathologists by preparing slides and specimens for diagnosis.
- Handle cytological samples, including Pap smears and fine-needle aspirations, and prepare them for analysis.
- Ensure that all laboratory equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and functioning efficiently.
- Monitor the quality of reagents, stains, and chemicals used in tissue processing.
- Implement and adhere to quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Document and report any malfunctions, errors, or inconsistencies in lab equipment or testing processes.
