Surgical Preparation: Prepare the operating room for surgery by ensuring all necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies are sterile and readily available.
Assisting the Surgical Team: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other surgical staff to assist during procedures, providing the necessary instruments and maintaining a sterile environment.
Patient Safety and Monitoring: Ensure the safety and comfort of the patient before, during, and after surgery by monitoring vital signs and assisting with positioning and draping.
Infection Control: Adhere to strict infection control protocols, maintaining a sterile field throughout the procedure and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Documentation: Accurately document all surgical instruments used, patient responses, and any significant events during the procedure in the surgical record.
Instrument Management: Manage surgical instruments efficiently, including counting and ensuring the correct number of instruments are available before and after the procedure.
Communication: Facilitate effective communication within the surgical team, ensuring all members are aware of the surgical plan, any changes, and the patient’s status.
Continuous Learning: Participate in ongoing education and training programs to stay updated on best practices in perioperative nursing and contribute to quality improvement initiatives in the operating room.
