Patient Pre-Examination Preparation: Ophthalmic Technicians prepare patients for eye examinations by taking initial medical histories, measuring visual acuity, and performing preliminary eye tests. They gather relevant information to assist the ophthalmologist in the diagnostic process.
Diagnostic Testing: Ophthalmic Technicians conduct a variety of diagnostic tests to assess patients' eye health. This may include measuring intraocular pressure (tonometry), performing visual field testing, and using specialized equipment for imaging the eye structures, such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) or fundus photography.
Assisting in Eye Procedures: Ophthalmic Technicians assist ophthalmologists during various eye procedures and surgeries. They may be responsible for maintaining sterile conditions, handing instruments to the surgeon, and providing patient care before, during, and after procedures.
Contact Lens Fitting and Instruction: In some settings, Ophthalmic Technicians may be involved in fitting and instructing patients on the use of contact lenses. This involves taking measurements, assessing fit, and educating patients on proper insertion, removal, and care of contact lenses.
