Operation Theater Assistant

1. Preparation and Maintenance:

• Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile drapes.
• Ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are available and functional.
• Sterilize instruments and maintain aseptic techniques to prevent infections.

1. Patient Care:

• Assist in transporting patients to and from the operating room.
• Help position patients on the operating table to ensure comfort and accessibility for the surgical team.
• Monitor and provide basic care to patients before and after surgery.

1. Assisting During Surgery:

• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgical team during procedures.
• Hold retractors, cut sutures, and assist in controlling bleeding under the direction of the surgeon.
• Handle specimens taken for laboratory analysis.

1. Post-Operative Duties:

• Clean and restock the operating room after surgery.
• Properly dispose of used supplies and biomedical waste.
• Assist in transferring patients to recovery rooms.

1. Administrative Duties:

• Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and inventory.
• Assist with scheduling and coordinating surgeries as needed.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and comply with safety regulations.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited surgical technology program or similar training.
• Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in an operating room, is advantageous.
• Skills:
• Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to emergency situations.
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques and infection control protocols.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Physical stamina to lift and move patients and heavy equipment.
• Manual dexterity to handle instruments and supplies.

Work Environment:

• Fast-paced, high-stress environment within hospitals, surgical centers, or outpatient facilities.
• Exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and bodily fluids; adherence to strict safety and sanitation protocols is mandatory.
• Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
