Description
- Review outpatient encounter forms, medical documentation, and treatment records to accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10 and CPT coding systems.
- Enter patient demographic information, insurance details, procedure codes, and other billing-related data into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or billing software platform.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, eligibility, and preauthorization requirements to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement for outpatient services.
- Process outpatient insurance claims, including electronic and paper submissions, and follow up on outstanding claims to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement from third-party payers.
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, coding errors, and claim denials by conducting thorough research, communicating with insurance companies, and appealing denials as needed.
- Post payments and adjustments to patient accounts accurately, reconcile accounts receivable balances, and perform account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients regarding billing inquiries, payment arrangements, insurance disputes, and financial assistance programs, resolving issues promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinical staff, and revenue cycle team members to identify opportunities for process improvement, streamline billing workflows, and optimize revenue cycle performance.
- Maintain compliance with billing regulations, coding guidelines, and HIPAA privacy requirements, ensuring confidentiality and integrity of patient information and billing records.
