Description

  • Dress in proper O.T. attire.
  • Assists circulating nurse to check the readiness of the O.T.
  • Prepares the instruments, packs and consumables according to the list.
  • Scrub properly according to the procedure.
  • Gown and glove according to the procedure.
  • Drape and set up the scrubbing trolleys.
  • Count sponges and instruments with the circulating nurse.
  • Assist the surgeon in draping.
  • Organize work in order.

 

DURING SURGERY

  • If sponges are added during surgery, count them immediately. Do not handle any until they are not counted.
  • Do not mix sponges and tapes either on the table or in saline basin.
  • Discard soiled sponge in to the kidney basin on the field.
  • Keep the field neat; never have any article lying on another.
  • Wipe blood from instruments with moist sponge.
  • Maintain good technique, watch for any break in aseptic technique.
  • Be adaptable, accurate, and alert and be a good team-mate.

 

Before closure

  • Count sponges, needles, blades and instruments. Counting is done three times.
  • Preliminary or initial count.
  • Before closing the peritoneum.
  • Before skin closure.
  • As wound closure begins, start cleaning the mayo tray and organize instruments to facilitate cleaning of the room when patient leaves.
  • Have dressing ready After surgery.
  • Discard soiled sponges from the table.
  • Checks soiled linens and drapes to see that no instrument is sent to laundry. Discard linen in to the soiled linen hamper.
  • Care of specimens according to the hospital policy.
  • Know the protocol for clean and infected cases.
  • Keep room ready for next procedure.
  • Assist in shifting patient to or/recovery/surgical intensive care and hand over to concerned staff there.

 

Non-clinical Function

  • Maintain safety of equipments (care of bio-medical equipments if found any damage or technical fault should be reported to OT Incharge) Responsible for borrowed articles from other units
  • To assist in all type of OT procedures.
  • To check and maintained the reports and documents of all patients.
  • Assist the doctors in carrying out the procedures.
  • Maintenance of all equipment's in co-ordination with biomedical engineer.
  • Responsible for proper inventory and usage.
  • To check proper packing of all trays to be sent for sterilization in time and collect the same from CCSD department.
  • To check frequent conductivity of all machines and maintain the record.
  • Involve in quality assurance/quality control activities & infection control Policy & RSO.
  • Must be able to identify the clinical changes during the procedure.
