Description

  • Assist neurosurgeons in preparing for and performing a variety of neurosurgical procedures, including craniotomies, spinal fusions, tumor resections, and minimally invasive neurosurgery techniques.
  • Prepare and organize the operating room for neurosurgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and properly sterilized.
  • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and prepping in accordance with sterile techniques and infection control protocols.
  • Handle neurosurgical instruments and equipment proficiently, anticipating the surgeon's needs and maintaining a sterile field throughout the procedure.
  • Assist with intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM), such as electromyography (EMG), somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP), and motor evoked potentials (MEP), to assess and preserve neurological function during surgery.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, neurological status, and physiological responses during surgery, reporting any deviations or complications to the surgical team promptly.
  • Provide postoperative care to neurosurgery patients in the recovery room, monitoring their neurological status, managing pain, and addressing any immediate postoperative concerns.
  • Document patient information, surgical procedures, and perioperative care accurately and comprehensively in electronic medical records.
  • Collaborate with neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, neurologists, nurses, surgical technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards in patient care, respecting patient confidentiality, autonomy, and dignity at all times.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, continuing education activities, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in neurosurgery.
