- Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patients with kidney-related disorders, including detailed medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic assessments to diagnose conditions such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), glomerulonephritis, and hypertension.
- Diagnostic Testing: Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including urine tests, blood tests (such as creatinine and electrolyte levels), kidney imaging (ultrasound, CT scans), and kidney biopsies to aid in the diagnosis and management of renal conditions.
- Treatment Planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with kidney diseases, which may include medical management, dietary modifications, and coordination of dialysis or transplantation when necessary.
- Dialysis Management: Oversee the care of patients undergoing dialysis (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), including managing complications, monitoring laboratory parameters, and adjusting treatment protocols.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about kidney health, treatment options, dietary considerations, and lifestyle modifications to prevent disease progression and improve overall health outcomes.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, endocrinologists, and transplant surgeons, to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex renal issues.
- Research and Professional Development: Engage in clinical research to advance the field of nephrology, exploring new treatment modalities and technologies, and participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities to stay updated on the latest advancements in kidney care.
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including patient histories, examination findings, treatment plans, and progress notes, ensuring compliance with legal and institutional standards.
