Description
- Comprehensive understanding of health information management principles, practices, and regulations, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and other privacy laws.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, health information exchange (HIE) platforms, and medical coding and classification systems (e.g., ICD-10-CM, CPT) used for billing and reimbursement.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, abbreviations, and terminology standards to accurately interpret and transcribe healthcare documentation.
- Understanding of anatomical and physiological terms, medical procedures, and diagnostic tests to comprehend and process medical records effectively.
- Skill in organizing and maintaining medical records, including patient demographic information, clinical notes, diagnostic reports, and treatment plans, in accordance with established filing systems and standards.
- Attention to detail in indexing, coding, and cross-referencing medical records to facilitate retrieval, analysis, and reporting of health information.
- Accurate and efficient data entry skills to input patient information, medical histories, examination findings, and treatment details into electronic health records (EHR) or other health information systems.
- Ability to review documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements before processing and filing medical records.
