Description
Duties in Critical care areas:
- To come to duty on time and take over/written communication from previous RMO through a duty register (Round Book).
- Before going off duty ensure written appropriate communication to the RMO specifying requirement of individual patients.
- To assess patients on arrival in casualty and note all the history & other details in the files.
- To interact individually with every patient and brief the attendants about the status of patient in visiting hours.
- To advice relevant investigation, refer to specialist if required.
- To update clinical notes of all patients.
- To respond promptly to the request of all medical staff (Consultants and other doctors, nurses) to see any patient within the hospital and to advice or start any treatment as indicated.
- Carry out specific required procedures on patients as required by medical and nursing staff: Central line cannulation, IV infusions, Urinary Catheterizations, and Intubation, Ventilator support, Lumbar puncturing etc.
- Inform to the consultant on urgent basis.
- To make sure that reports are collected and placed in file and important findings are informed to the consultants. In case of handing the critical cases, if requirement arise to contact the
- Any telephonic instruction conveyed by consultant should be recorded in the case sheet as verbal orders & that will be countersigned by the consultant in his next visit for confirmation of the telephonic message.
- To complete the in-house transfer summary sheets in case of transferring the patient to other units.
- To respond immediately to clinical emergencies/lead the resuscitation team.
- In an emergency situation undertake emergency investigations and procedures as directed by the patients Consultant.
- To prescribe diet to the patient in consultation with the consultant if not already mentioned.
