Description
- In-depth understanding of infectious diseases, microbiology, epidemiology, and principles of infection prevention and control (IPC).
- Familiarity with evidence-based guidelines, regulations, and best practices related to infection prevention and control issued by organizations such as the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and WHO (World Health Organization).
- Ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential sources of infection, assess transmission risks, and implement preventive measures.
- Proficiency in surveillance methods, data collection, and analysis to monitor healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), identify trends, and implement targeted interventions to prevent outbreaks.
- Skill in developing, implementing, and evaluating infection prevention and control policies, protocols, and procedures in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and infection control committees.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements and accreditation standards related to infection control, such as those set forth by The Joint Commission (TJC) or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Effective communication skills to provide education and training to healthcare staff, including nurses, physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff, on infection control principles, practices, and protocols.
- Capacity to develop educational materials, conduct in-service training sessions, and facilitate discussions on topics such as hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and isolation precautions.
