Description

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU, including assessment, monitoring, and management of acute and life-threatening medical conditions.
  • Perform frequent assessments of patients' physiological and psychological status, monitor vital signs, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic test results to detect changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Administer medications, intravenous fluids, blood products, and other treatments as prescribed by physicians, titrating doses and monitoring for adverse reactions or side effects.
  • Manage mechanical ventilation, including setting ventilator parameters, assessing respiratory status, and suctioning airways as needed, to optimize oxygenation and ventilation in ventilated patients.
  • Monitor and manage hemodynamic status, including administering vasopressors, inotropes, and fluid resuscitation to maintain adequate tissue perfusion and blood pressure in critically ill patients.
  • Assist with invasive procedures such as arterial line insertion, central venous catheterization, and chest tube insertion, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for ICU patients, ensuring coordination of care and continuity of services.
  • Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families, explaining treatment plans, procedures, and prognoses, and addressing their questions, concerns, and coping mechanisms.
  • Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and comprehensively in the electronic medical record, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research projects, and performance improvement activities within the ICU, contributing ideas for process enhancements and best practices.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, safety guidelines, and ethical standards of nursing practice, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, families, and healthcare personnel.
