Description
- Conduct daily rounds in the ICU to assess critically ill patients, review clinical status, interpret diagnostic tests, and develop and adjust treatment plans based on evolving patient needs.
- Manage acute respiratory failure, septic shock, cardiac arrest, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), and other life-threatening conditions using evidence-based guidelines and advanced critical care interventions.
- Perform endotracheal intubations, airway management procedures, and mechanical ventilation adjustments to optimize oxygenation, ventilation, and respiratory mechanics in ICU patients.
- Administer sedation, analgesia, and neuromuscular blockade as needed to facilitate mechanical ventilation, minimize discomfort, and ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures and critical illness.
- Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac function, fluid balance, and electrolyte levels using invasive and non-invasive monitoring modalities, such as arterial lines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, and echocardiography.
- Perform bedside procedures, such as central line placements, arterial catheterizations, thoracenteses, and bronchoscopies, safely and effectively in critically ill patients.
- Coordinate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other specialists to provide perioperative management, intraoperative anesthesia care, and postoperative ICU support for surgical patients.
- Supervise and educate critical care trainees, residents, and medical students rotating through the ICU, providing mentorship, teaching, and feedback on clinical skills and critical care principles.
