Histopathology Technician

Roles and Responsibilities

• Embedding specimens into blocks and fixing tissue in formalin. Should observe all laboratory safety precautions while handling of clinical specimens and running of tests.
• Operating instrumentation for tissue dehydration, section clearing, impregnation with paraffin, cutting tissue sections, and staining of slides.
• Preparing solutions, stains, and reagents in accordance with standards written procedures
• Operating and maintaining all histopathology area lab equipment in proper state of readiness, cleanliness and sharpens and hone microtome knives.
• Recording number of tissue blocks verifying proper identification and label.
• Assisting the Pathologist in gross examination of surgical specimens and in frozen section procedures. Must bring to the notice of his / her section supervisor any abnormal findings / test conditions required for specific attention of the supervisor.
• Performs and monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used.
