Job Summary:

  • The Head Nurse leads the nursing team to deliver exceptional care to elderly residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This role involves supervising nursing staff, coordinating care plans, maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, and fostering a safe, supportive environment for residents.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Leadership and Staff Supervision
  • Manage and supervise the nursing team, including scheduling, training, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to nursing staff to maintain high standards of care.
  • Address and resolve any issues or conflicts among the nursing team to ensure effective teamwork.
    2. Resident Care Management
  • Oversee the development and implementation of individualized care plans for residents.
  • Monitor residents’ health conditions, review treatment plans, and adjust care as needed in collaboration with physicians.
  • Ensure that residents’ medical, emotional, and social needs are met in a compassionate and professional manner.
    3. Quality Assurance and Compliance
  • Ensure nursing practices comply with facility policies, healthcare regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of nursing documentation, medication administration, and infection control practices.
  • Stay updated on best practices and implement continuous improvement strategies within the nursing department.
    4. Communication and Coordination
  • Act as the primary liaison between the nursing team, medical staff, residents, and families.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary meetings to discuss resident care plans and progress.
  • Communicate effectively with residents’ families to provide updates and address concerns.
    5. Emergency and Risk Management
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and guide the nursing team in delivering appropriate care.
  • Identify potential risks to resident safety and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Maintain preparedness for emergencies by training staff and conducting drills.
    6. Administrative Responsibilities
  • Manage nursing budgets, including staffing, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including resident files, incident reports, and staff schedules.
  • Assist in recruitment, on boarding, and professional development of nursing staff.

    Required Skills and Qualifications:
    1. Education & Licensure
  • GNM Nursing with registration is a plus.
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state/region of practice.
  • Certification in geriatric care, palliative care, or dementia care is highly desirable.
    2. Experience
  • Previous experience in elderly care, long-term care, or a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
    3. Key Skills
  • Strong clinical knowledge, particularly in geriatric health issues, chronic disease management, and end-of-life care.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
  • Empathy, patience, and effective communication skills for interacting with residents, families, and staff.
