Description

  • Gynecologists are medical healthcare specialists that diagnose and treat gynecological conditions as well as advise patients on birth control and fertility matters.
  • They may own private practices, or work in women's health clinics, hospitals, or charitable organizations.
  • Conduct comprehensive gynaecological evaluations, including medical history-taking, physical examinations, pelvic examinations, Pap smears, and diagnostic tests, to assess gynaecological health and identify abnormalities or conditions requiring treatment.
  • Diagnose and treat gynaecological conditions and disorders, including menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, ovarian cysts, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and gynaecological cancers.
  • Provide prenatal care to pregnant women, including regular check-ups, ultrasound examinations, prenatal screening tests, and management of pregnancy-related complications, with a focus on promoting maternal and fatal health and well-being.
  • Manage labour and delivery for pregnant women, including monitoring labour progress, providing pain management, performing vaginal deliveries or assisting with caesarean sections, and ensuring safe delivery outcomes for mother and baby.
  • Perform gynecological surgeries and procedures, including hysterectomy, myomectomy, oophorectomy, tubal ligation, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, colposcopy, and cervical biopsy, with skill, precision, and adherence to surgical protocols.
  • Provide family planning and contraceptive counseling to women and couples, including counseling on contraceptive options, fertility awareness methods, and preconception health, and performing contraceptive procedures such as IUD insertion and contraceptive implant placement.
  • Conduct menopausal evaluations and provide menopausal management, including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), management of menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis prevention, and age-related health concerns in postmenopausal women.
  • Screen for gynaecological cancers, including cervical cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer, through regular screenings, clinical examinations, and diagnostic tests, and refer patients for further evaluation and treatment as needed.
