Consultant General & Minimal Access Surgeon

Clinical & Surgical Responsibilities

1. Diagnose and manage general surgical conditions such as hernias, gall bladder disease, appendicitis, gastrointestinal disorders, colorectal diseases, breast and thyroid conditions, and soft tissue pathologies.
2. Perform open and laparoscopic (minimal access) surgeries, including but not limited to:
3. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
4. Laparoscopic appendectomy
5. Laparoscopic hernia repair (TAPP / TEP)
6. Diagnostic laparoscopy
7. Open abdominal surgeries and emergency procedures
8. Manage surgical emergencies such as acute abdomen, bowel obstruction, perforation, and trauma-related surgical cases.
9. Conduct pre-operative assessment, obtain informed consent, and provide comprehensive post-operative care and follow-up.

OT, Ward & Team Coordination

1. Plan and execute elective and emergency OT schedules in coordination with Anaesthesia and Nursing teams.
2. Ensure strict adherence to surgical safety checklists, infection control protocols, and OT discipline.
3. Supervise junior doctors, residents, OT staff, and nursing personnel during surgeries and ward rounds.
4. Coordinate with departments such as Gastroenterology, Urology, Oncology, and Critical Care for multidisciplinary case management.

Administrative & Academic Contributions

1. Maintain accurate and complete medical records, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
2. Participate in clinical audits, morbidity & mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
3. Contribute to the development and revision of departmental SOPs and clinical pathways.
4. Participate in CME programs, workshops, and training sessions as required by the hospital.

Patient & Family Engagement

1. Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.
2. Ensure ethical practice, transparency, and compassionate communication throughout the patient care journey.
3. Registration: Valid registration with National Medical Commission (NMC) / State Medical Council.
