Consultant Emergency Medicine

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Provide immediate assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting with medical, surgical, trauma, and cardiac emergencies.
2. Ensure rapid stabilization and resuscitation of critically ill patients using evidence-based emergency care protocols.
3. Supervise and participate in advanced life support procedures (ACLS, BLS, ATLS) and emergency interventions.
4. Coordinate transfer of patients to ICU, OT, or other departments, ensuring safe handover and continuity of care.
5. Handle mass casualty situations and disaster emergencies as per hospital disaster management protocols.
6. Liaise with specialists across departments (Cardiology, Surgery, Orthopedics, Critical Care, etc.) for timely consultations.

Operational & Supervisory Responsibilities

1. Oversee daily operations of the Emergency Department (ED), including triage, patient throughput, and documentation.
2. Supervise medical officers, junior residents, nurses, and paramedics in the ED.
3. Ensure adherence to infection control, medication safety, and emergency equipment readiness.
4. Participate in developing and implementing hospital-wide emergency response plans and Code Blue protocols.

Administrative & Academic Contributions

1. Maintain accurate clinical records, documentation, and medico-legal paperwork.
2. Participate in clinical audits, mortality reviews, and quality improvement programs within the department.
3. Assist in the development and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for emergency care.
4. Conduct and participate in CME sessions, mock drills, and skill training for ED and hospital staff.

Patient & Community Engagement

1. Provide empathetic counselling to patients and families during crisis situations.
2. Promote emergency preparedness and first-aid awareness programs within the community.

Registration: Valid registration with the Medical Council of India or respective State Medical Council.
