Description

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, plan, and perform cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
  • Valve repair and replacement surgeries
  • Thoracic surgeries (lung resections, mediastinal procedures)
  • Aortic and peripheral vascular surgeries
  • Pediatric and adult congenital heart surgeries (if applicable)
  • Supervise and participate in preoperative assessment, intraoperative management, and post-operative follow-up.
  • Collaborate with Interventional Cardiologists for hybrid or combined cardiac procedures.
  • Manage surgical emergencies such as aortic dissection, cardiac tamponade, and chest trauma.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of cardiac surgery patients through multidisciplinary case conferences.

Operational & Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the CTVS Operation Theatre (OT) team, perfusionists, and surgical assistants.
  • Ensure adherence to sterile techniques, infection control, and surgical safety checklists.
  • Oversee ICU and step-down unit management of post-cardiac surgery patients in collaboration with Intensivists.
  • Conduct morbidity and mortality reviews to continuously improve outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate surgical documentation and data for clinical audits and reporting.

Administrative & Academic Contributions

  • Contribute to developing and updating departmental SOPs, clinical protocols, and care pathways.
  • Participate in clinical audits, peer reviews, and hospital quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to junior surgeons, residents, and OT staff.
  • Conduct and participate in CME programs, surgical workshops, and skill upgradation sessions.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership in establishing and expanding cardiac surgery services.

Patient & Family Engagement

  • Counsel patients and families regarding surgical procedures, risks, and outcomes.
  • Promote preventive cardiac health and post-surgical rehabilitation programs.
  • Ensure compassionate communication and ethical decision-making throughout the surgical journey.
