Consultant Anesthesiologist

Clinical Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough pre-anaesthetic evaluation, risk assessment, and optimisation of patients prior to surgery.

• Administer general, regional, and local anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical procedures.

• Monitor patients intra-operatively, ensuring stable vital parameters and prompt management of complications.

• Manage airway interventions including endotracheal intubation, laryngeal mask airway (LMA), and emergency airway management.

• Oversee post-operative recovery, pain management, and transfer of patients to recovery room/ICU as required.

• Provide anaesthesia support for emergency surgeries and procedures at all times.

• Ensure adherence to safe anaesthesia practices, infection control protocols, and patient safety standards.

Operation Theatre Management

• Ensure readiness and proper functioning of anaesthesia machines, monitors, and emergency equipment.

• Coordinate with OT nursing staff and technicians for smooth scheduling and conduct of surgeries.

• Maintain strict OT discipline, sterility, and compliance with infection control guidelines.

• Ensure availability and proper usage of anaesthetic drugs and consumables.

Supervision & Coordination

• Supervise junior doctors, OT technicians, and nursing staff involved in perioperative care.

• Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, and other specialists for comprehensive patient management.

• Participate in emergency response teams and Code Blue situations within the hospital.

Administrative & Academic Contributions

• Maintain accurate anaesthesia records, consent documentation, and perioperative notes.

• Participate in clinical audits, OT quality improvement initiatives, and safety reviews.

• Develop and update anaesthesia protocols, checklists, and SOPs.

• Conduct training sessions, workshops, and CME programs for OT and clinical staff.

• Support hospital initiatives related to quality accreditation (NABH) and patient safety.

Patient & Family Engagement

• Provide clear counselling to patients and relatives regarding anaesthesia procedures, risks, and post-operative care.

• Obtain informed consent and address patient concerns with empathy and professionalism.

• Uphold patient confidentiality and ethical standards at all times.
