Description

  • Rapidly assess and prioritize trauma patients based on the severity of injuries, mechanism of injury, and physiological status using the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) principles.
  • Perform primary and secondary surveys to identify life-threatening injuries, manage airway, breathing, and circulation (ABCs), and initiate interventions to stabilize patients' vital signs and prevent further deterioration.
  • Perform emergent procedures such as endotracheal intubation, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, cricothyroidotomy, and emergent surgical airway management as needed to manage airway compromise, tension pneumothorax, and other life-threatening conditions.
  • Perform rapid sequence intubation (RSI) and administer sedation and analgesia while maintaining hemodynamic stability and ensuring adequate oxygenation and ventilation.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including trauma imaging studies (X-rays, CT scans), laboratory tests (complete blood count, comprehensive metabolic panel), and point-of-care testing (arterial blood gases) to assess the extent and severity of injuries and guide treatment decisions.
  • Utilize clinical decision rules and evidence-based guidelines to guide the appropriate use of diagnostic tests and imaging modalities in trauma patients.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary trauma teams, including trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and paramedics, to provide coordinated and timely care for trauma patients.
